View Article  Duke defeats Northwestern 20-14

 The streak is 1-0!

Box Score  Duke played a wonderful offensive first half only to crawl in a shell in the second half.  But when the game was on the line, the defense rose to the occasion and Duke ended the nation's longest losing streak defeating Northwestern 20-14.  It wasn't easy.  Duke rode the first half passing accuracy of Thad Lewis.  Lewis completed almost every pass (14-15) throwing three first half touchdowns.  The defense was on the field almost the entire second half and had to hold yet again in the final 77 seconds, but the Cats would go from their 10 yard line to the Blue Devils ten.  Duke elected to continually keep the ball on the ground even though they were stuffed all night.  It looked as if the Cats who had 500 yards of total offense, would still find a way to win.  Northwestern made a couple of big plays before one could get a chip in their mouth.  Before you could reach for your drink, Ted Roof challenged a questionable call, but it was not reversed.  Suddenly, Northwestern had the ball first and ten on the Duke 31 with 58 seconds left.  Northwestern then had another penalty which moved the ball back to the 41.  Well, the Northwestern quarterback then ran the ball to the 6.  Joe Surgan was probably hiding under the bench after missing an extra point, but there were two more plays left.  Roof called a timeout and the defense held.  It all came down to fourth down and goal and this time the ball went incomplete and the Blue Devils mercifully ended their steak with defensive pressure.  You could hear a sigh of relief from Blue Devils nationwide.  "It was a tough game, we made some mistakes but we were able to pull it out," said Vinnie Rey.  He went on,  "We got our first win of the season and we're happy."  It wasn't pretty, but it was effective and Duke is in the win column.  "Nothing is going to come easy for us," said Coach Roof.   It certainly wasn't and Northwestern was quick to turn the scoreboard off after the game.  "We talked to them all week about having to go earn one.  This week we found a way to win," said Coach Roof.  Hopefully, this will be a stepping stone for the rest of the season.

What we expect and the rights we reserve.

We choose to be able to cancel any memberships at any time for no particular reason.  You are not allowed to cut and paste or share information obtained here with large news groups or reprint  in the mainstream media without permission.  Accessing the site from more than three ISP's will automatically shut your password down.

Questions or log in problems

Feel free to email them to watzonebdp@gmail.com  We will respond asap.  Allow up to twelve hours.  Remember, you do not register as a regular reader on the site.  That is for free updates only.  So, if you have registered log out, and then log in with the user name and password we sent you.

Why we charge for premium?

It keeps the site running, especially until advertising comes in, which we expect to happen because the site reaches a few thousand people a day.  It is not free to travel to events and cover AAU ball, so this offsets the costs.  The money helps to  run our unique photo galleries of Duke Athletics and  pay for the bandwidth that the fans of the Blue Devil Nation use.  We also use the funds to pay for equipment that allows the site to grow and expand our coverage.

Is my identity safe?

Absolutely.  Nobody sees your name or personal information.

Is there a bulletin board?

No.   Other sites allow a great place for discussion, like the DBR.  Not having one eliminates the headaches that we don't have time to deal with, like arguments, and opposing fans running with the information, etc.  So, you get straight foward information ... sometimes in article form and sometimes just the facts and quotes.

Think about it like you are paying 30 cents a day for a daily Duke focussed newspaper.

As of October 5th you can make comments or ask questions in the premium section.  I will answer any questions to the best of my ability.

Keep in mind!

Paypal has a question area when subscribing, where if it is not answered, will automatically renew your service.

We are in no way affiliated with Duke University.  The information in the premium newsletter is intended for private use only and in no way do we expect to see reproduction of photos or information in any way without prior permission.
