Krystal Thomas scored 13 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as the USA U19 Women crushed South Korea 113-69 in preliminary round play in the World Championships being played in Bratislava, Slovakia. The USA Pan Am Team opened the competition with a loss to Uruguay. The USA made only 3 of 21 3-point attempts, while Uruguay was successful on 7 of 23 attempts.

Riding a huge fourth quarter scoring explosion as a team and a 27-point individual scoring effort by Matee Ajavon (Rutgers / Newark, N.J.), the USA Women’s Pan American Games Team (5-0) outscored host Brazil (4-1) 30-13 in the game’s final quarter to record a 79-66 win and capture the Pan American Games gold medal Tuesday evening in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Serbia won the U19 World Championship with a 74-69 victory over the USA. Serbia outrebounded the USA 34-32, while the USA shot just 28.5% (6-21) from behind the 3-point arc. Serbia led by as much as 19 points and held of a furious USA comeback attempt.

Patrick Beverly scored 20 points to lead Team USA over Argentina. Team USA improved to a perfect 7-0 and advanced to the semi-finals of the U19 World Championships in Novi Sad, Serbia. Next up is France who the USA previously defeated 87-82. Brazil and Serbia face off in the other semi-final.

Team USA has improved to 6-0, in the U19 World Championships, being held in Serbia, with an 87-82 victory over France. Jonny Flynn scored 18 points and Michael Beasley added 17 points going 8 of 12 from the field. Beasley also grabbed eight rebounds. This post will be updated with links to the game recap and box score once they become available. Next up for the USA is Argentina in the quarterfinals on Friday. Argentina has a 3-3 record.

Michael Beasley scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the USA U19 team to a 104-65 thrashing of Brazil. Eight USA players scored in double digits. USA now sits alone at the top of Group E with a perfect 5-0 record.

Following three days of training camp in Washington, D.C., USA Basketball today announced the official, 12-member 2007 USA U19 World Championship Team roster, which includes Duke incoming freshmen Jasmine Thomas and Krystal Thomas. Stephen Curry scored 19 points including a key 3-pointer late in the game as the USA edged host Serbia 82-78 in the U19 World Championship. Serbia utilized a 23-7 run to tie the score at 70 but the USA prevailed down the stretch to finish preliminary play undefeated.

Sixteen teams will compete in Serbia for the U19 World Championship commencing on July 12th. The USA is assigned to Group B along with Mali, China, and host Serbia. The official website has schedules, team rosters, articles, and once play begins game recaps and box scores. The USA's first opponent is Mali on July 12 at 1800 Belgrade time (1200 EDT). On the 13th, we play China at 2030 (1430 EDT), and on the 14th, Serbia at 1800 (1200 EDT). The Blue Devil Nation will track the action and post links to articles throughout the tournament. Paced by double-doubles from Michael Beasley, 16 points/10 rebounds, and DeAndre Jordan, 14 points/14 rebounds, the USA U19 Men defeated Puerto Rico 117-79. Overall, seven USA players scored in double digits including Davidson's Stephen Curry who scored 13 points while shooting 5-5 from the free throw line. USA Basketball has the game recap and box score. In a separate development, Kansas' forward Darrell Arthur has been diagnosed with a stress fracture to his leg and will not travel with the team to Serbia. Arthur is expected to make a full recovery in six to eight weeks. More details are available from the Kansas website and the Dallas Morning News.

Led by Michael Beasley's double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds the USA U19 Men dominated Africa 102-51 in the 2007 Global Games. Both Deon Thompson and DeAndre Jordan just missed double-doubles. Thompson scored 13 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in 15 minutes of action, while Jordan scored 9 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Next up for the USA is Puerto Rico on Friday at 6 pm (CDT).
