View Article  Even novelists need to needle Duke

Wake Forest alum Emily Giffin is a novelist of sorts, having penned a handful of books categorized as "chick lit." She's apparently an avid basketball fan, having attended both Wake undergrad and Virginia Law School.

I'd never heard of her prior to last Sunday. That changed while I read the New York Times' Book Review, in which a blurb about her latest novel appeared. It reads as follows:

Giffin, who is 34 and lives in Atlanta, went to Wake Forest University and, while there, managed the men's basketball team for several years. She likes to work details about Wake Forest basketball into her novels, too. "And if I can do it while slamming Duke," she told her alumni magazine, "all the better."

Now I have no animus for Ms. Giffin's chiding, particularly since her writing is inconsequential, and because she's just kidding around.

That said, I think Ms. Giffin might appreciate hearing back from some Duke basketball fans, if they deem it fit.

You can reach her via her page on MySpace (indeed, the mark of a true literary gem).
