It was the Greg Paulus show tonight as he showed clear leadership in his play.  Greg threw snappier passes and seemed much more active in taking his man off the dribble in order to create a play.

Paulus hit 6 of his first 7 shots, with each coming from different spots on the perimeter.  His stroke was consistent and seemed automatic.  While Davidson continued to play him hard, this was Greg's evening to shine.   He called out picks and directed his team as a point guard should and communicated well with new teammates.

Josh McRoberts stayed on the sidelines tonight, and that left 7-2 Brian  Zoubek as the only player taller than 6-8. He took advantage and continued to battle tough inside.  He'd call for the ball, but got a little bit of the black hole syndrome towards the end, where he forced a play instead of kicking the ball back out to open teammates.

Boyken guarded him most of the evening and shows a vastly improved jump shot, although it is somewhat flat.  He loves to battle and will not back away staying active around the glass, but sometimes  recovers too slowly on defense.

Freshman Jon Scheyer continued unselfish play and shows a head for the game, meaning he is smart in a court sense.  He shows a lot of expression when watched closely and keeps his head in the game.  His shooting will help right away, as will his willingness to defer and wait his turn.

DeMarcus Nelson told me before the game that he was just 85% back.  He played in just one game this evening after slipping on some sweat and slightly twisting his ankle.  No major worries folks!  DeMarcus has showed signs of brilliance, but like every player here, still needs work on certain parts of his game.

Gerald Henderson is as still finding his way around new teammates and as always gives one of the nights biggest crowd responses with a powerful dunk.  He seems to have all the tools to be very successful from day one and gives us an incredibly athletic one, two punch with DeMarcus.  That one, two punch is in no particular order.

I spoke to David McClure after the games and he is still adjusting his confidence after his off season surgery.  He is doing so nicely.  He doesn't stand out like a superstar, but plays many roles well and all facets of his game seem better.  He is obviously coachable and was very well mannered when I talked to him, meaning he represents what is good about Duke Basketball.
