DURHAM, N.C. (Duke Sports Information)-- Jon Scheyer came off the bench to score a game-high 22 points to lead 13th-ranked Duke to an 86-61 win over visiting New Mexico State at Cameron Indoor Stadium on Monday night.

The Blue Devils improve to 2-0 while the Aggies fall to 0-2.   With the victory, Duke extends its streak of consecutive home wins against non-conference opponents to a nation-best 53 games.

After trailing 6-4 early in the game, the Blue Devils used a 12-0 spurt to claim a 16-6 advantage when Taylor King canned a three-pointer at the 14:49 mark.  An 11-2 run capped by a jumper from Kyle Singler pushed the Blue Devils ahead by a 27-10 count midway through the first half.

After leading 47-26 at intermission, the Blue Devils extended the lead to 31 points at 61-30 just over six minutes into the second frame.

Scheyer, who scored 13 points in the season-opening win over N.C. Central, was eight-of-11 from the floor including a four-of-six performance from three-point range.  DeMarcus Nelson added 14 points while Gerald Henderson and Singler chipped in 11 and 10, respectfully.  Greg Paulus registered nine points, eight assists, four steals and four rebounds.

New Mexico State received 16 points and 11 rebounds from Justin Hawkins while Fred Peete scored 13 points with three assists.

Duke next heads to Lahaina, Hawaii, for the EA Sports Maui Invitational.  On Monday, November 19 at 9 p.m. (ET), the Blue Devils will face Princeton in the opening round with the remainder of the field including Arizona State, Chaminade, Illinois, LSU, Marquette and Oklahoma State.

The Aggies were caught looking ahead to Duke in a loss to a decent Ohio team.  Mark my word that this team and their fans have marked their calender for this game.  That said, I do expect them to give us their best shot.  This is a team which returns four of five starters and is led by four seniors.  NMS also brings size along the front line and Duke has not faced that in either the NCCU, exhibition games or practice.  So, I see NMS playing our Dukies tough early on, but Coach K will adjust and the Blue Devils will pressure the NMS backcourt into turnovers as the game wears on.  Duke must hit their threes in this game or find the cutter to the basket when NMS tries to take this away.  The pick is Duke 95 New Mexico State 72, but keep in mind this is a team in NMS that everybody expects to make the NCAA tournament and they are capable of making this a serious early season challenge.

After a successful debut, the No. 13 Blue Devils look for another strong effort from their three key first-year players when they host New Mexico State on Monday.
