Blue Devil Bits

Duke improved to 6-0 on the season with a 78-43 win over Eastern Kentucky on Sunday. Wisconsin is 5-0 following a 68-49 win over Georgia in its last outing.

The Blue Devils are 6-0 for the third time in the last four seasons and the 14th time in 28 years under Coach K.

Duke is ranked seventh in both the AP poll and the ESPN/USA Today Coaches poll. The Blue Devils have been ranked in 207 of the last 209 AP polls.

Freshman Taylor King came off the Duke bench to score a season-high 27 points in the win over Eastern Kentucky. The Huntington Beach, Calif., native outscored the Colonials 13-12 in the opening 20 minutes of play.

Duke limited Eastern Kentucky to 12 first half points - the fourth-lowest scoring half by an opponent under Coach K. The Blue Devils have outscored the opposition 274-162 (45.7-27.0) in the opening half this season for an average halftime lead of 18.7 points per game.

DeMarcus Nelson and Gerald Henderson also reached double figures in scoring on Sunday for the Blue Devils. Both players have now scored 10 or more points in five of Duke’s six games this season.

The Blue Devils held Eastern Kentucky to just 23.5 percent (4-of-17) shooting with 18 turnovers in the opening 20 minutes of play on Sunday.

Duke forced a season-high 31 turnovers in the win over Eastern Kentucky and have now harassed the opposition into 126 turnovers through the first six games of the season.

Freshman Kyle Singler earned ACC Rookie of the Week honors on Monday, Nov. 26. He was also named the ESPN.com Player of the Week following the Maui Invitational.

Numbers Game

8-0 - Duke (8-0) is the only undefeated team in Big Ten/ACC Challenge play. The Blue Devils have two wins over Illinois, Indiana and Michigan State in the event. Duke other victories came against Iowa and Ohio State. Duke is 2-0 at home, 2-0 on the road and 4-0 in neutral site games in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.

9.4 - Duke has a +9.4 margin of victory in eight Big Ten/ACC Challenge games. Five of Duke’s wins have come by eight points or less, including last year’s 54-51 win over Indiana at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

54 - The Blue Devils have won an NCAA-best 54 consecutive non-conference home games. Duke’s last home loss against a non-conference foe was an 83-82 decision against St. John’s on Feb. 26, 2000.

6 - Duke has had a 20-point scorer in each of the first six games of the season, the fourth-longest streak to start a season under Coach K and the 11th-longest in program history. Freshmen Taylor King and Kyle Singler each have a pair of 20-point efforts, while Gerald Henderson and Jon Scheyer also have 20-point games this season.

58-23 - Duke is 58-23 all-time against teams currently in the Big Ten Conference, including a 38-15 mark under Coach K. The Blue Devils posted an 79-66 win over Illinois last Tuesday at the Maui Invitational and have now won three straight games against Big Ten competition.

27 - Taylor King 27 points off the bench in Duke’s win over Eastern Kentucky set a Duke record for most points scored by a reserve in a game. King was 9-of-14 from the field, including 6-of-11 from three-point distance, and 3-of-4 from the foul line in the contest. His six threes also matched the Duke freshman record for treys in a game. Trajan Langdon and J.J. Redick also had games with six made three-pointers during there freshman campaigns.

33.3 - Duke’s bench is averaging 33.3 points per game through the first six games of the season. Last year, the Blue Devil bench averaged 14.4 points per game. Sophomore Jon Scheyer (10.5) and freshman Taylor King (10.2) are both averaging double-figures in scoring off the bench.

25-of-48 - Taylor King and Jon Scheye are shooting a combined 52.1 percent (25-of-48) from three-point range on the season. As a team, Duke is shooting 41.7 percent (53-of-127) from three-point range and ranks second in the ACC in three-point field goals per game (8.83 3pg).

7-of-9 - Seven of Duke’s nine players that have played in all six games are shooting 50.0 percent or better from the field this season. The Blue Devils rank second in the ACC in field goal percentage at 51.7 percent (183-of-354).
