Blue Devil Bits• Duke improved to 8-0 on the season with a 79-73 win over Davidson last Saturday. Michigan has dropped three straight contests and is 3-5 on the year.

• Duke is ranked sixth in the AP poll and seventh in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches poll. The Blue Devils have been ranked in 208 of the last 210 AP polls.

• The Blue Devils are 8-0 for the third time in the last four seasons and the 14th time in 28 years under Coach K.

• Five Blue Devils scored in double-figures against Davidson, marking the second straight game Duke has had five double-figure scorers. Gerald Henderson led the way against the Wildcats with 21 points. He also added eight rebounds, four assists and three blocks in the win.

• Freshman Kyle Singler posted his second double-double of the year with 14 points and 12 rebounds in Duke's last outing.

• Greg Paulus had 11 points, four rebounds and four assists in Duke’s win over Davidson. He came up with three big plays in the closing minutes of play. The Syracuse, N.Y., native knocked down a three-pointer from the right wing, a fading jumper from the left baseline and recorded a steal in the final 1:23 of play.

• Junior Martynas Pocius will undergo season-ending surgery on his left ankle in January. Pocius injured the ankle against Eastern Kentucky on Nov. 25.

Numbers Game

55 The Blue Devils have won an NCAA-best 55 consecutive non-conference home games. Duke is 4-0 at home against non-conference foes this season. Duke’s last home loss against a non-conference foe was an 83-82 decision against St. John’s on Feb. 26, 2000.

34 Duke has won 34 straight games in December and is 38-1 (.974) in the month since the 2000-01 season. The Blue Devils’ last December loss was an 84-83 setback against Stanford on Dec. 21, 2000.

59-23 Duke is 59-23 all-time against teams currently in the Big Ten Conference, including a 39-15 mark under Coach K. The Blue Devils posted a 79-66 win over Illinois and an 82-58 win over Wisconsin earlier this season. They have now won four straight games against Big Ten competition.

85.6 Duke is averaging 85.6 points per game to rank second in the ACC and 13th nationally. The Blue Devils were ranked last in the ACC in scoring at 70.4 ppg. a year ago. Duke has scored over 75 points in all eight games this season after hitting the 75-point mark just 11 times in 33 outings in 2006-07.

24.2 Duke has an average margin of victory of 24.2 points per game in its eight wins. The Blue Devils lead the ACC in scoring margin and are currently ranked ninth nationally. Five of the Blue Devils’ eight wins have been by more than 20 points.

.674 Freshman Kyle Singler is shooting 67.4 percent (29-of-43) from inside the three-point line and 57.6 percent (38-of-66) from the field overall this season. He is two made field goals shy of the ACC minimum made field goals per game and would rank second in the conference in overall field goal percentage.

31.1 Duke’s bench is averaging 31.1 points per game through eight games. Last year, the Blue Devil bench averaged just 14.4 ppg. Duke has had 10 double-figure scoring games off the bench, including five by sophomore Jon Scheyer

5 Five different Duke players have led the team in scoring during the first eight games. Kyle Singler, Taylor King and Gerald Henderson have all led the squad in scoring two times, while Jon Scheyer and Greg Paulus have also posted game highs in points.

42.6 Duke is shooting 42.6 percent from three-point distance (second-best in the ACC). Jon Scheyer (.500, 13-of-26), Taylor King (.488 - 20-of-41) and Greg Paulus (.471, 16-of-34) are each shooting over 45.0 percent from behind the arc on the year. The Blue Devils are second in the ACC and 24th nationally in three-point field goals per game (9.38 3pg.).

• 17.3 Freshman Taylor King is averaging 17.3 points per game in four home contests. He led the Blue Devils in scoring twice at home this season with 20 points in the season opener against N.C. Central and 27 points against Eastern Kentucky. The 27 points was the highest scoring total by a bench player in Duke history and the fourth-highest mark in ACC history. King is shooting 56.1 percent from the field (23-of-41) overall and 54.5 percent (18-of-33) from three-point distance at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

• 20 Taylor King has made 20 three-point field goals in eight games to lead the Blue Devils. His 20 treys are the second-most in the ACC this season. Only Florida State’s Isaiah Swann has more made treys on the year with 27 in 10 games. King has made 18 of his 20 three-pointers at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

1.07:1 Duke is tied for the ACC lead with a 1:07:1 assist-to-turnover ratio this season. A year ago, the Blue Devils ranked 10th in the league in the category. Duke is averaging 16.4 assists per game and has recorded an assist on 55.5 percent of its made baskets this season.

6 Junior point guard Greg Paulus has a streak of 76 consecutive games with at least one assist. The only game in his collegiate career that he did not record an assist in was his collegiate debut against Boston University. Since then he has only had three games with only one assist, while posting 31 games with 5 or more assists.

3 Duke is the only team in the ACC that has had three different players score 20 or more points in two or more games this season. Gerald Henderson Kyle Singler and Taylor King all have two games with 20 or more points. Boston College is the only other school in the conference with at least two players who have scored 20 or more points twice this season.

The 8-0 Blue Devils host the 3-5 Michigan Wolverines Saturday at 2 PM. Duke has been impressive so far this season. With nine players making significant contributions per game: Kyle Singler (14.1 points/26.9 minutes), Gerald Henderson (13.8/22.3), DeMarcus Nelson (11.9/29.6), Jon Scheyer (11.0/27.0), Taylor King (9.9/13.4), Greg Paulus (9.0/26.6), Lance Thomas (5.8/21.4), Nolan Smith (4.6/14.5), Brian Zoubek (3.4/11.4); with no player averaging 30 minutes of playing time per game, last year's depth and scoring problems are history. Duke is averaging 85.6 points per game on 50% shooting from the floor, including 42.6% from behind the three point line.

For Michigan, which has lost three straight games, points have not been as easy to come by as they are averaging 64.5 points per game on 41.6% shooting from the floor. The Wolverines have two players averaging double digit points per game: Manny Harris (16.6), a 6'5" freshman guard, and DeShawn Sims (12.4), a 6'8" forward.

My prediction: Duke's pressure defense, fast break, and long range shooting are too much for Michigan to handle. Duke 86 - Michigan 58.
