All the Duke haters can put their shovels away, because Duke showed that they will not quit. Duke went into icy Boston and handled the league leading Eagles for the second time this season. The Blue Devils defense by committee worked well on ACC leading scorer, Jared Dudley, holding him to just 5 shots. The Eagles were stunned by a run that put Duke up 24. On this night the team was not about to let Coach K lose five straight ACC games -- something that still hasn't happened in his career. Duke took advantage of every opportunity it had to run, but would pull the ball back when a play wasn't there. If you watched the game, you had to love those breaks. It looked as if Duke worked on them all week long, because they were getting up the court on offense and back on defense. You have to give it up for McRobert's too. He came to play and had another stat stuffing evening and more importantly, was having fun.
McRoberts stat line - 18 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals In fact, the entire team had fun and it was clear that they were playing together. You could see the emotion as they refused to let this game slip away as the home crowd and team came alive. I am sure that many people will talk of BC coming back, and I have to agree that taking the air out with eight minutes was too early, but there are too many positives to linger on one thing. The Devils took a big step forward tonight. It's funny how a win can ease things for everybody. Right now, people know Duke will be back in the top 25, yet just yesterday the sky was falling. All Duke needed was a break or two, and they made their own against the Eagles. It was a team win. Before I close, I have to mention DeMarcus Nelson's steal and Paulus ... the much maligned PG had a pretty good game. It was a good win for a young team and it showed them they can beat anybody in the league on a given day. More later ...
