View Article  Duke Football will get some TV time

Duke has announced 2:00 EST as the starting time for the September 1st  home opener versus UConn.  Duke will then travel to Virginia for a 12:00 game on Raycom.

Duke will play at Navy at 1:00 EST on CSTV and Northwestern at 8:00 on the Big Ten Network.

The most exciting news is that Blue Devil fans will get to see Duke at Notre Dame in a November 17th nationally televised affair on NBC. The game will kick off at 2:30.

View Article  BDN Premium - Boynton talks with the Blue Devil Nation

Kenny Boynton has hit the Duke recruiting radar, but they are not alone.  Several colleges have been pounding the mailbox and phone line at the Boynton residence.  They will have to continue to do so, because Boynton is open to any overtures at this point in the process.

Boynton is an offensive machine, but at 6-2 his future likely lies at the PG.  Still, with his nose for scoring, it is doubtful that a coach will hold the reigns back on his shot.

Kenny Boynton is often compared to Eric Gordon.

These skills make him an intriguing prospect.  In talking with his AAU coach, more high praise is added to the growing list of quotes. "He reminds me of Eric Gordon," said AC Corey Rollins.

To read the rest of this article and get Boyton's comments on the recruiting process, what he is looking for in a school and much more, you must be a mamber of the Blue Devil Nation Premium Newsletter. Catch up on all the hot recruiting information in the archives.  To join, go to one of three paypal links which are located in the menu to your left.  Subscribe for one year and save 44.00 of the three month price.

The BDN told it's readers over a week ago that Jon Scheyer and DeMarcus Nelson would go to the Pan American trials.  He is the complete roster which is loaded.  As I said before, this will be a good experience for both players.

View Article  Old School Trivia Contest! The Bubas Era - Mid 60's

Watzone loves old school!  Before Coach K and Foster, there was a heck of a coach named Vic Bubas leading the Blue Devils.  I want somebody to win a six month membership to the Blue Devil Nation Premium Newsletter!  To do so, you must do a little research or have lived as a Blue Devil fan in the sixties.  I realize that many of you were yet to be born in the sixties, so I have made the question one that you can figure out if you dig out the record books.

You are looking at a 1964 Final Four program, signed by the Duke basketball team.  For a closer view, go here!

You will notice that athletes in the day signed their names in a clear manner.  For a three month membership, name the players who signed this program who went on to have a career in professional basketball?  Who were the final four teams and what was the teams record versus arch rival UNC during he 1963-64 season?

The first person to answer the three questions correctly, gets the subscription.  But wait!  You can extend the membership to six months by naming all the players that played professional basketball in this oh-so cool link to a letter from Vic Bubas which is signed by the team?  Can you tell me the year by looking at the names?

Also, can you tell me the assistant coaches name who signed the letter and his claim to fame?

If you get all the questions right, I will gladly grant you a six month membership, so you can keep up with recruiting and happenings in Duke athletics.  You will earn the crown and be the King of the sixties.

Send the answers to watzonebdp@gmail.com

A very young Watzone is reaching out to a player for an autograph in 1964.  Can you name this player and his current occupation?  Do so, and I will give you a month of premium access.  Hint, he was Italian.

Check out the kid waving a Duke pennant Yep!  That's me!  But as I have told an assistant coach, don't call me old if you can't beat me in "horse."

View Article  Make up your mind Billy!

According to Jeff Goodman, Billy Donovan can't make up his mind.  Okay, he actually said he wants to return to the Gators.  Never a dull moment, eh?  Goodman may know something, because he seems very close to the former, er ... current, well, lets just say Donovan.  Personally, I find it hard to think he would be introduced as the Magic coach and then waffle.  While the Gators would surely take him back, they must wonder when he might have another change of heart.  Talk about staying in the news ...
