DURHAM, N.C. (AP) -- DeMarcus Nelson scored 20 points to lead Duke (No. 7 ESPN/USA Today, No. 9 AP) to a 87-65 victory over Virginia on Sunday night. Gerald Henderson added 18 points and Kyle Singler scored 13 for the Blue Devils (13-1, 1-0 Atlantic Coast Conference), who never trailed, led by double figures for the entire second half, hit 11 3-pointers and shut down Virginia's perimeter game. Duke held the Cavaliers, a 40 percent shooting team from long range, to just 4-of-14 shooting from beyond the arc. Sean Singletary scored 18 points and Calvin Baker added 13 for Virginia (10-4, 0-1), which was denied its first victory at Cameron Indoor Stadium since a double-overtime victory in 1995. Its four-game winning streak against ranked teams also was snapped.

In Memphis, on Thursday night, St. George's defeated Christian Brothers 58-57. Elliot Williams was carried off the court at the 6:36 mark of the 3rd Quarter with a hurt knee. He is expected back in a couple of days. Williams scored 20 points in the first half of the game. On Friday night, sans Elliot Williams, St. George's defeate Lausanne 71-48 and Leslie McDonald scored 22 points as Briarcrest defeated St. Benedict 76-67.

Out in Reno, Olek Czyz scored 20 points as Reno defeated Hug 69-52 on Friday night. Czyz was 14-16 from the free throw line. The scouting report on Czyz has consistently discussed his rawness, specifically his lack of offensive polish, but it has become clear in following his games that he is a good free throw shooter. This is a characteristic that should serve him well at the collegiate level.

Down in Florida, Brandon Knight dished out a school record 16 assists and scored 13 points for Pine Crest High School, in his first start of the season, after recovering from off-season surgery, as Pine Crest defeated Boca Raton 73-46 at the MLK Classic.

In Norfolk, DeShawn Painter scored 23 points to lead Booker T. Washington to a 64-49 victory on Friday night.
