View Article  Zoubek sidelined indefinitely with fracture

DURHAM, N.C. — Duke sophomore center Brian Zoubek will be sidelined indefinitely after suffering a fifth metatarsal fracture in his left foot on Monday. The injury is not expected to require surgery.

Zoubek suffered the same injury during a pickup game on July 9 and missed 10 weeks of action after undergoing surgery on July 11.

“This is a setback for Brian and for the team,” said Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski. “He worked hard to recover from the injury over the summer and was beginning to solidify his role with the team. We have total confidence that Brian will recover from the injury and return as soon as he is physically able.”

The 7-1 Zoubek is averaging 4.3 points and 3.7 rebounds per game, while shooting a team-high 59.5 percent (22-of-37) from the field this season.

The Cutcliffe Clan

You hear the word family mentioned a lot when Duke Athletics comes up in conversations.  Be it Coach K and company or the Women's Golf  team's togetherness, Duke has always promoted family.  The new football coach David Cutcliffe, staff and family fits in quite well.  In a recent press conference almost all his assistants used the word "family."  The BDN would like to welcome the staff and their families to the Blue Devil Nation.

Some have said former Dukie Elton Brand would return to action around March the 1st for the Clippers.  Trust me when I say do not look for him until nest season.  Elton injured his Achilles tendon and having recently experiencing a similar injury, I can tell you firsthand that the rehab process is both long and tedious.

Here is a link where my pal Jim Sumner discusses the history between Duke and Temple.  It includes the classic NCAA game in the Meadowlands where Billy King shut down Mark Macon for Duke to advance to the Final Four.  It was a heck of a game and I was fortunate enough to be in attendance.

I came away very impressed with Dukes new football staff, finding all of them quite personable during the recent press conference to announce their arrival.  In this link, Al Featherston gives his usual thorough report on the crew for GoDuke.com  As an aside, Al had a book signing during the Cornell game and all of the copies on hand were sold during the game.

Just in case you missed it, Lindsey Harding will have her jersey retired this season.  Here is a link discussing the details.  The BDN supports Duke Women's Basketball and I will finally be able to cover their games again with my new walking boot in place.  Lindsey is very deserving of this prestigious gesture.

It looks like Richmond HC David Clawson will replace David Cutcliffe as offensive coordinator at Tennessee.  Clawson, an up and coming coach should he indeed be hired shows that job with the Vols is highly sought after.

I have been remiss in mentioning a fun Duke site of late.  Well, it is run by the program, so that says it all.  Check out the Blue Planet and enjoy the program from within.

While I hate the fact that Duke Report links this site as a blog, for it is really more of a site.  They do give us some links and update news daily, so check them out by going here.
