The NBA's Pre-Draft Camp starts today and Dan Wiederer, of the Fayetteville Observer, asks whether participating ACC players are ready for the NBA. Wiederer states NBA teams like DeMarcus Nelson's athleticism and defense, but they are scared because he doesn't have a great jump shot. The article also discusses J.J. Hickson, Ty Lawson, Wayne Ellington and Danny Green. Robbi Pickeral, of the News & Observer, has an article up that discusses the long wait between a college player declaring for the draft and the deadline for removing their name. Is the timeline good for college basketball?

Dan Wiederer lists five odds and ends from the Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions. Number one on his list is the play of Kenny Boynton and Brandon Knight of Florida Team Breakdown. He also discusses Ryan Kelly, John Wall and Nolan Dennis. Adam Zagoria names Derrick Favors and John Wall the TOC's big winners, while Jody Demling discusses Daniel Orton's dominating performance at the Nike Memorial Day Classic in Nashville.

In Men's Lacrosse, Duke's Matt Danowski has been named Player of the Year for the second consecutive year.

So, do you have interest in them?

Yes, I do. (emphatic)

This is but a small sample of the interview.

Derrick Favors gives an exclusive post TOC MVP interview where he discusses the tournament.  Included are questions and answers on the elbowing incident which got him ejected from the semi final game.  He led his Atlanta Celtics team to the U-17 title with a dominating performance.  Members will get two other interviews with Favors in the coming days.  Don't be deceived by other premium sites which claim one on one interviews yet feature many or all of the questions I personally asked.  One on one interviews do not feature multiple media members, so making it your own is in my opinion, unethical.  I will have those general media swarm comments as well, but you will enjoy true one on one talks here.  You will also get photo illustrations that you will find nowhere else.  In the coming days, members will get there second and third interviews with Kenny Boynton Jr.  We also talked with his teammate Brandon Knight.  We interviewed Josh Hairston and John Wall in a joint venture with another site, yet we got one on ones with Travis McKie, Derrick Favors, Kenny Boynton, Brandon Knight, Nick Russell and of course Mason Plumlee who this site has covered better than anyone hands down.  Don't believe that claim?  Go to our premium archives once you are a member and judge for yourself. So, go to the paypal links in the menu to your left and join!  There are TOC reports, our first Kenny Boynton interview and the one with Derrick Favors waiting with much more to come.  Once you have joined, jump in on the discussion on our premium only message board where you can get a break from those public boards which resemble the wild, wild west.  We don't deal in rumors and will make it clear when we are just speculating.

WIth Mason Plumlee in the bag, Duke fans turned their attention to Kenny Boynton and for the ones who made it to Chapel Hill, he didn't disappoint.  Despite being worn from travel and having just finished exams, Boyton focused in as Team Breakdown won it's opening game by the mercy rule.

During the Tournament of Champions, the mercy rule is implemented at the four minute mark if a team has a 20 point lead.  Baltimore Cecil Kirk was glad the game ended for they had no answer for the team from South Florida's claim to the best AAU backcourt in America.  Sensational 2010 guard Brandon Knight had just 11 points, but he dazzled with his ability to slash through the opponent's defense at breakneck speed.

Pictured left to right, Boynton, Plumlee, Russell and Hairston.  Join BDN Premium and get answers to burning recruiting questions.  There will be interviews, scouting reports and stories from the TOC well into next week.

Knight's heroics were something to behold, but Kenny Boynton was scoring at will and would not be denied.  On one play he scored with two Kirk players literally hanging on his arms and connected at the line for a three point play.  The next time down court he flushed a three from the top of the key.  In short, Boynton scored in every conceivable way,

Perhaps the most spectacular play was a dunk, where he broke past two defenders and went up effortlessly, slamming the ball home so hard that the ball caromed back up on the bounce and hit the rim.  Kenny had 20 points in the first half alone and finished the game with 33 points, 5 assists and 2 steals.

Meanwhile in Cameron, Mason Plumlee led his Indiana Elite team to an easy win, scoring 14 points and grabbing 11 boards.

Team Breakdown will take on the Connecticut Basketball Club tomorrow in Cameron.  The game starts at 11:00 and is open to the general public.  The Blue Devil Nation Premium will have an interview with Kenny up shortly.  BDNP also talked to prospects Nick Russell, Josh Hairston and Mason Plumlee on Friday evening alone.  To read these interviews and get unique scouting reports observations, join Blue Devil Nation Premium.  We will keep you in the know.

The Bob Gibbon's Tournament of Champions invades the Triangle this weekend.  A few hundred of the nations top basketball prospects will play in practically every gym on the Duke, UNC and N.C. State campuses.  The games start at 6:00 on Friday and go until around 5:00 on Sunday.

If you are local, you may want to check out the event.  If you are a Duke fan and are within driving distance, you will definitely want to be in Cameron Indoor Stadium at 11:00 on Saturday.  That's when Team Breakdown led by Kenny Boynton will play in the historic arena for the first time.  So, take that as a heads up, that you might be there to cheer him on.

Top Duke prospect Kenny Boynton Jr. will play in Cameron at 11:00 Saturday alongside teammate Brandon Knight

Boynton has become a household name on the recruiting trail and has long been the Blue Devils top target in the class of 2009.  Coach K and company have been to Florida to take in his practices and game, not to mention be in the stands at many AAU events to keep an eye on the player they covet.

The Florida native can fill it up with the best of them and is considered a PG by NBA scouts, but he is more than capable of playing the two.  Having seen the young man play in several games, I can tell you that he is a game changer.

He transferred to American Heritage this past season and plays alongside a talented crew for Team Breakdown, which includes super 2010 prospect Brandon Knight.  So, you are getting a double dose of talent and then some when watching Team Breakdown play.

Kenny could be the most important prospect to play in Cameron since Chris Duhon.  Blue Devil fans filled the stand for his game which prompted a person close to the program to call it a circus atmosphere.  When you take in to account that two Duke prospects will be on the court, there is no reason for the faithful not to come out and show a little love.

2009 Commitment Mason Plumlee plays in Cameron at 7:30 Friday evening

The event will have several prospects which are firmly on the radar and a kid that has already signed in Mason Plumlee.  Mason will be in Cameron on Friday night at 7:30.

So, on Saturday, you have Boyton at 11:00 and the Atlanta Celtics and Derick Favors following in Cameron Indoor Stadium.

DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke men’s basketball team added another member to its 2008 signing class when Miles Plumlee signed a financial aid agreement to play for the Blue Devils next season. Plumlee originally signed a national letter of intent with Stanford but asked for and was granted his release after Trent Johnson left Stanford to take the head coaching job at LSU in early April. Duke received the paperwork to make the announcement official on Thursday.

“We are fortunate to land a player of Miles’ caliber this late in the recruiting process,” said head coach Mike Krzyzewski. “He is a versatile player that continues to grow and mature physically. Miles gives us another skilled big man that can be an impact player of both ends of the floor.”

Plumlee, a 6’10”, 230-pound power forward from Christ School in Arden, N.C., joins Elliot Williams and Olek Czyz as incoming freshmen for Duke. Plumlee averaged 15.8 points, 6.9 rebounds and 2.5 blocks while leading Christ School to its second straight NCISAA State Championship as a senior. The Greenies went 34-2 on the season and defeated Greensboro Day 50-41 in the state finals. Plumlee was named to the NCISAA 3A All-State team and was a All-Western North Carolina first team selection by the Asheville Citizen-Times for the second straight season.

Originally from Warsaw, Ind., Plumlee started prep school at Christ School in 2006-07. He guided the Greenies to a pair of state championships and a 63-6 overall record in two seasons. He was ranked as the No. 17 power forward in the 2008 class by scout.com and No. 58 overall. ESPN.com rated him No. 22 among power forwards and the 68th best player in the country. Rivals.com listed him the No. 29 power forward and No. 101 overall prospect.

View Article  Nate James is the newest assistant coach - Wojo, Colllins promoted

DURHAM, N.C. – Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski announced the addition of Nate James to the coaching staff on Tuesday, May 6. The Washington, D.C., native fills the opening created when associate head coach Johnny Dawkins took the head coaching job at Stanford in late April. James joins the staff as an assistant coach after serving as an assistant strength and conditioning coach last season.

“Nate is a great addition to our staff,” said Krzyzewski. “He was a valuable member of our program as a player and will be an asset as an assistant coach. His maturity, toughness and dedication to Duke will blend well with the current staff we have in place. I look forward to watching Nate develop and prosper in this role.”

James, a 2001 Duke graduate, scored 1,116 career points as a member of the program from 1996-2001. He helped the Blue Devils to a 71-9 ACC regular season record and is the only player in ACC history with five straight regular season conference titles (he redshirted in 1998 after playing in six games). James, a two-time team captain, played on a pair of Final Four teams, including Duke’s 2001 National Championship squad. As a senior, James averaged 12.3 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game while helping the Blue Devils to a 35-4 record.

James, an All-ACC and ACC All-Defensive team selection in 2001, played professionally in the United States and overseas from 2002-2007. After being named the Carolinas Basketball League Most Valuable Player in 2003, James spent various parts of the next five seasons playing in the Bosnia, Brazil, France, Germany, Greece, Holland, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Philippines, Poland and Russia. He was also with the Philadelphia 76ers during their training camp in 2004.

Wojo, Collins Named Associate Head Coaches

Krzyzewski also announced assistant coaches Steve Wojciechowski and Chris Collins will be promoted to associate head coaches.

“I am excited about the staff we have put together,“ said Krzyzewski. “Steve [Wojciechowski] and Chris [Collins] are outstanding coaches. They are both well deserving and prepared for their new roles.”

Wojciechowski joined the staff for the 1999-2000 season and has helped Duke to six league titles, the 2001 National Championship and a 261-53 record. Collins has been a member of the staff for the past eight seasons with the Blue Devils compiling a 232-48 record, five ACC Tournament championships, four in-season tournament titles and the 2001 National Championship.
