Dick Davey has joined Johnny Dawkin's staff at Stanford. Davey was previously the head coach at Santa Clara for 15 years and was honored four times as the West Coast Conference coach of the year. Also joining the staff is former Loyola Marymount head coach Rodney Tention. Prior to being a head coach, Tention served as an assistant at Arizona for eight seasons. One challenge Dawkins faced with his move to Stanford was a lack of west coast experience having spent his entire coaching career as an assistant at Duke. With the hiring of Davey and Tention, Dawkins has secured two assistants with extensive west coast experience. Mike Schrage, who followed J.D. to Palo Alto from Durham, was also named as an assistant coach on the staff. Schrage was previously the director of basketball operations at Duke.
